Subject classification: 78.30.Hv; 78.45.+h; S12Introduction Nowadays, nonlinear c (2) -and c (3) -active organic crystals represent a rapidly growing direction of solid-state physics and chemistry to obtain efficient second and third optical harmonic generation [1,2]. Other efficient nonlinear c (3) processes as stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) were outside the interest of experts working in these fields. This is rather astonishing, because the SRS phenomenon was discovered in a liquid organic material (nitrobenzene) almost 40 years ago [3]. The present note expands our search for new SRS laser converters (see, e.g., [4][5][6]). Here, for the first time we report experimental observation of c (2) and c (3) effects, namely the Stokes and anti-Stokes generation as well as self-frequency doubling (FD) and self-sum-frequency mixing (SFM), in the acentric molecular crystal 4 0 -nitrobenzylidene-3-acetamino-4-methoxyaniline (MNBA). We believe that its measured large Raman shift (w SRS % 1587 cm -1 ) and the estimated relatively high staedy-state Raman gain coefficient (g ssR ! 7 cm/GW) make this material attractive for a number of new applications in modern quantum electronics and nonlinear optics. Before, MNBA crystals were known also as electro-optic, photorefractive, and nonlinear waveguide materials [7][8][9].
