High Add Valued Application of Turpentine in Crop Production through Structural Modification and QSAR Analysis

Abstract: Turpentine is a volatile component of resin, which is an abundant forest resource in Southern China. As one of the most important components, the integrated application of β-pinene has been studied. The broad-spectrum evaluation of β-pinene and its analogues has, therefore, been necessary. In an attempt to expand the scope of agro-activity trials, the preparation and the evaluation of the herbicidal activity of a series of β-pinene analogues against three agricultural herbs were carried out. In accordance with… Show more

“…Li et al reported that a series of decanoic acid thiourea derivatives have good antifungal activity against various plant pathogenic fungi [14]. Gao et al reported that a series of terpene-based acyl-thiourea derivatives showed moderate to excellent antifungal activities against several fungi [16,17].…”

“…The compound β-pinene is a natural compound with antimicrobial activity [8,9,10] which can be used to participate in numerous chemical reactions. Masses of β-pinene derivatives can be synthesized by chemical modification, and some of these derivatives have been proved to have better antifungal activity [11,12,13,14,15,16,17]. For example, Li et al [14] synthesized three series of β-pinene-based derivatives, and tested their fungicidal activity against three agricultural fungi.…”

“…9 -13 A large number of β-pinene derivatives can be synthesized by chemical modification, and some of these derivatives have been proved to have increased antibacterial activities. 14 -19 For example, Gavrilov et al 20 synthesized 3 series of β-pinene-based derivatives, and the reaction mixes of the sulfoxides had high activity against Penicillium tardum . Recently, cationic antimicrobial agents have been shown to be very effective bacteriostatic agents and are used in many applications, such as pesticides, hospital protective clothing, medical implants, wound dressings, and food packaging materials.…”
