Hierarchical predictive control scheme for distributed energy storage integrated with residential demand and photovoltaic generation

Abstract: A hierarchical control scheme is defined for the energy management of a battery energy storage system which is integrated in a low-voltage distribution grid with residential customers and photovoltaic installations. The scope is the economic optimisation of the integrated system by employing predictive control techniques. The approach is based on hierarchical decomposition of the optimisation problem in the time domain by composing a three-level scheduling and control scheme, that is, day-ahead, intra-hour, an… Show more

“…Annual costs and benefits are calculated by using historical market data. Earlier work on the economic optimisation of distributed energy storage, coupled with residential demand and PV generation, addressed a revenue analysis of the passive contribution in system balancing which is a voluntary scheme attributable to the Dutch system organisation [24,25]. In this paper, the focus of the economic analysis is on the active contribution in system balancing, i.e.…”

“…Several scheduling and control schemes have been proposed in the literature to operate dispatchable feeders, e.g. [1]- [3]. The computation of the DiS constitutes one of the major challenges in all these works.…”

“…Throughout all simulations reported in Section V, this worst-case choice for ε P has not led to infeasibility of the scheduling problem 3. We recall that, given a random variableZ ∈ L 2 (Ω, µ; R), the CDF is a function F Z (z) : Ω → [0, 1] such that F Z (z) := P[Z ≤ z].…”
