“…13 On replacing the two sulfur atoms by two heavier selenium atoms, there is a general trend for the 11 B NMR shieldings of the [hypho-E 2 B 6 H 9 ̅ ] − anion type to be displaced to higher field by on average 3.5 ppm. This is most marked for the boron atoms B(8) and B (9), which are adjacent to the heteroatoms. Overall, the 11 B NMR shielding patterns for the anions [Se 2 B 6 H 9 ] − (5) and [S 2 B 6 H 9 ] − (5-thia) depict strong similarities, and therefore replacing a sulfur atom by a selenium atom has produced no significant perturbation of the 11 B NMR parameters, which is in accordance with the results found for the macropolyhedral heteroborane anions [E 2 B 17 H 18 ] − and [E 2 B 18 H 19 ] − (E = S, Se) above.…”
