Hepatoprotective Effect of Albumin Peptides from Corn Germ Meal on Chronic Alcohol‐Induced Liver Injury in Mice

Abstract: Corn germ meal albumin peptides (CGMAPs) of M < 1 kDa, a kind of bioactive peptides which could effectively improve alcohol metabolism and protect against the hepatic damage induced by alcohol, might be useful as natural sources to protect liver from alcoholic damage.

“…Previously, (Yu et al., 2017) reported the extraction of albumin protein from CGM with the following conditions: 1:20 mass ratio of CGM to water, 30 min extraction time, and 40°C extraction temperature, but the extraction rate was unknown. In this study, we first focus on seeing how protein extraction was influenced by various conditions.…”

“…The basal CGM albumin protein was prepared using the method described by (Yu et al., 2017). A total of 100 g CGM was ground into powder (100–200 mesh) and dissolved in 2 L distilled water, followed by magnetic stirring in a water bath at 40°C for 30 min to improve the solubility of CGM albumin.…”

“…It is well known that chronic and excessive alcohol intake can lead to a number of chronic diseases, such as alcohol-induced liver disease (ALD) [ 1 ]. ALD, as one of the most prevalent types of liver disease worldwide, is a broad term that includes a range of diseases of different severities, such as steatosis, hepatitis, alcoholic cirrhosis, etc., and is present in more than 90% of heavy drinkers [ 2 ].…”

“…Nowadays, most researchers added CGM to feeds for animals, such as pigs (da Silva et al, ), hens (Brunelli, Pinheiro, Fonseca, & da Silva, ), and calves (Jun et al, ) for providing nutrition and to reduce costs. Few researchers have applied CGM to other areas, such as the preparation of antimicrobial edible film (Hyungwook et al, ) and the protection of albumin peptides from CGM in chronic alcohol‐induced liver injury (Yu, Wang, Wang, Lin, & Liu, ).…”
