This study is aimed to investigate and compare the regenerative effects of Silymarin (SLM); and Sun Dried Organic Apricot (SDOA) on liver regeneration after 70% Partial Hepatectomy (PH) in rats. Rats mean weighing was 238.1 ± 17.8 g, and they were randomly divided into the five groups. During the 17 d of the study period, the following feed and drug administration order was maintained: group 1 (sham) (n=6) and group 2 (n=8) were fed with standard rat chow, group 3 (n=8) was fed with standard rat chow and given additionally daily 100 mg/kg dose of silymarin extract by gavage, group 4 (n=8) was fed with 10% supplemented SDOA to chow and, in addition, they were given daily 100 mg/kg dose silymarin extract by gavage, and group 5 (n=8) was fed with 10% supplemented SDOA to chow. Water was given ad-libitum to all groups. After a week, group 1 had a laparoscopic procedure; the others underwent a 70% PH. On 18 th d of the study, all rats were humanely sacrificed. Taken liver tissue samples of all groups were used to histopathological and tissue biochemical examination. Approximately 10 ml blood samples were taken and the obtained serum samples were used for measurement of serum Aspartate Transaminase (AST) AST, Alanine Transaminase (ALT) and Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) levels. The results of the present study revealed a remarkable protective effect of silymarin rather than SDOA based on the histopathological and Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen, (PCNA). PCNA findings and liver tissue/serum biochemical parameters. Therefore, before 7 and after 10 d of PH, silymarin administration have shown beneficial effect than SDOA consumption on liver regeneration of rats.

Present study has been carried out evaluate prophylactic effect of Camel milk on physiological and biochemical changes in CCl4-intoxicated rats. A total of 36 male albino rats were randomly divided into 6 groups viz. control group (G1), silymarin (SM) group (G2), camel milk (CM) group (G3), CCl4-intoxicated group (G4), silymarin prophylactic group (G5) and camel milk prophylactic group (G6). Each group has six rats. After completion of the study (8 wks), blood samples were collected and hematological parameters, liver contents of glutathione (GSH), malondialdhyde (MDA) , superoxide dismutaseactivity (SOD), serum urea, uric acid, creatinine, testosterone, estradiol were measured. The results of this study revealed that CCl4 toxicity significantly reduced Hb level, RBCs count and PCV, whereas it significantly increased the WBCs count with respect to normal control. Intoxication of CCl4 in G4 rats led to microcytic hypochromic anaemia, increased erythrocyte fragility and, leukocytosis was accompanied neutrophils increases and a decrease in lymphocyte counts. Also, CCl4 produced significant increase in serum urea, uric acid, creatinine and estradiol level and decrease in circulating testosterone level compared with normal rats. Pre-treatment with CM and SM brought significant restoration in hematological, renal function parameters and sexual hormones disturbance. Liver fibrosis is defined by excessive deposition of extracellular matrix. The fibrotic conditions result from the imbalance between synthesis and deposition of fibrous tissues and decomposition of these matrix proteins. This process can be reversed as a regular part of the healing process after hepatic damage or can become chronic. When the protein matrix synthesis predominates and the decomposition is suppressed, fibrosis will progress into irreversible cirrhosis or steatosis. Among the molecular players involved in fibrotic liver diseases, metalloproteinases of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) and a disintegrin and metalloproteinase (ADAM) families are critical in the development of liver fibrosis and its resolution. Previously, MMPs were recognized as extracellular matrix degrading enzymes. Currently, they are also known as mediators in a variety of processes related to immunity and tissue repair. In this article, we have reviewed the models of liver fibrosis and findings on MMPs and ADAMs in hepatic fibrosis conditions.
