Hepato nephropathology associated with inclusion body hepatitis complicated with citrinin mycotoxicosis in a broiler farm

Abstract: Aim:Mortality in a broiler chicken farm was investigated for identifying the cause of mortality.Materials and Methods:A broiler farm with a population of 16000 succumbed to a disease outbreak. Clinical signs, vaccination history and mortality, were recorded. Necropsy examination and microscopic examination were carried out along with toxicological and molecular studies. Results:The clinical signs in the affected broiler birds were of non-specific nature with a total mortality of 26.39%. Postmortem examination a… Show more

“…By the age of 1 month and even more so by 2 months, the control group birds undergo an increase in the liver weight, accompanied by cell hypertrophy prevailing over their proliferation that is consistent with the literature data [29,35]. This is proved by the nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio calculations.…”

“…Only half of the chickens had fat degeneration, lymphoid cell infiltration of the surrounding bile, and blood vessels connective tissue. The authors explain this by the subclinical infection caused by Clostridium perfringens and viruses, which lead to cholangiohepatitis as well as by aflatoxins, coming with the feed [29,[36][37][38].…”

“…Using Ziehl-Neelsen stain, acid-resistant bacteria were excluded. Differential diagnoses for granulomatous and necrotising hepatitis include toxic, ischemic or infectious causes [47,48]. In the presented investigations, only a limited number of samples could be investigated for pesticides.…”

“…At present, citrinin detection methods include thin-layer chromatography [ 9 ], high-performance liquid chromatography [ 10 ], and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS) [ 11 ]. Thin-layer chromatography has the advantages of simple operation, low cost, and fast detection.…”
