“…Considering that BSP is structurally similar to Xavonoids (Passamonti et al 2002;Karawajczyk et al 2007), that rat liver BTL is an anthocyanin carrier (Passamonti et al 2002;Passamonti et al 2005b) and that the carnation petal homologue is, accordingly, competitively inhibited by cyanidine 3-glucoside (Passamonti et al 2005c), it is possible to infer that the grape homologue may be a Xavonoid carrier. Such speculation is supported by data of the competitive inhibition by quercetin (an essentially colourless Xavonoid intermediate naturally occurring in pulp berry) on the BSP transport activity and also by the expression of this carrier in speciWc compartments, as well as in diVerent developmental stages of the grape berry.…”
