Hepatic multiple myelolipoma with severe coelomic edema in a red-bellied tamarin (Saguinus labiatus)

Abstract: This report describes hepatic multiple myelolipoma with severe coelomic edema in a 14-year-old, male red-bellied tamarin (Saguinus labiatus). Multiple small and large nodules were formed in all lobes of the liver. Histopathologically, the nodules comprised mature and normal adipocytes and hematopoietic elements at various ratios that were composed of granulocytic, erythrocytic, and megakaryocytic series in various phases of maturation. All nodules were encapsulated and demarcated hepatocytes around masses. Mye… Show more

“…The monkeys in the present report lived together in the same environment for 13 years. In the rare cases that hepatic and/or adrenal myelolipomas were described in another primate species, such as common marmoset, red‐bellied tamarin, cotton‐top tamarin, and chimpanzee, little was explained about the risk factors for the disease.…”

“…19 Other PLNs reported in NHPs are hepatoma in sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys); 20 neuroendocrine carcinoma in baboon (Papio sp. ); 21 and myelolipoma in common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus), 22 chimpanzee, 9 red-bellied tamarin (Saguinus labiatus), 23 and Goeldi's monkeys (Callimico goeldii).
