Hematological and Biochemical Indices of Blood in Wels (Silurus glanis L.) from Intensive Aquaculture

Abstract: The objective of the present study was to determine the values of basic blood indicators and of biochemical plasma indicators of we Is (Si/urlls glanis L.) intensively bred in warmed power station water without natural feeds. The study included 8 feeding experiments using 4 imported (ALMA. BioMar) and 4 domestic pelle ted feeds with different protein (40 -491ft) and fat 18-22'7c) content. The experiment involved 3265 one-year-old she at fish (Su I) of 209 and 295 g average individual weight (in 1996 and 1997. … Show more

“…Average blood serum values determined were total lipids 9.95 mM L −1 , glucose 49.39 mM L −1 and total protein 29.89 g L −1 . We assume that differences between values published by Jirásek et al. (1998) and in the present study reflect the different compositions of used diets and possible differences in starvation time before sampling.…”

“…It should also be mentioned that haematological values can be affected not only by growth but also by ecophysiological conditions (Ranzani‐Paiva et al, ). Diet quality and quantity has significant effects on fish physiology, and, thus, may interfere with haematological variables (Jirásek, Mareš, & Palíková, ).…”
