Show more

“…The number of inflorescences is a very important parameter, because the product of heliconias is the flower stem. Therefore, the higher number of produced flower stems enables greater competitiveness and increased profitability for producers (Paulino et al, 2013;Albuquerque et al, 2014;Beckmann-Cavalcante et al, 2015).…”

“…Tropical floriculture is a good investment alternative, because it is an activity that requires a small area for cultivation and the plants have short cycle and high added value, which provides the producer with a rapid return on the invested capital (Paulino et al, 2013). Among the tropical species, heliconias stand out as cut flowers, due to their exotic beauty with diversity of colors and shapes, resistance to handling, transport and increased postharvest durability (Rodríguez, 2013;Albuquerque et al, 2014).…”

“…Golden Torch, in twelve months of evaluation, which represented an amount of 10 to 10.5 stems per month. Similarly, Paulino et al (2013) obtained mean yield of 9.3 to 10.2 stems m -2 per month when different sources and doses of silicon were applied in the soil cultivated with heliconia cv. Golden Torch.…”

“…Despite the researches in the literature on the demands in the areas of soil fertility and mineral nutrition for heliconias Farias et al, 2013;Paulino et al, 2013;Albuquerque et al, 2014;Viégas et al, 2014;Amaral et al, 2015;Beckmann-Cavalcante et al, 2015;Castro et al, 2015) and although these aspects constitute the most determinant factors for the production of this crop, as well as its quality and resistance to diseases, the results come from specific edaphoclimatic conditions. Thus, further studies are necessary for regions with potential for commercial cultivation, such as the state of Piauí.…”

“…The increase in Si doses may provide less weight loss in vegetables compared to treatments without silicon (Guimarães et al, 2010;Paulino et al, 2013). The loss of fresh matter is mainly by dehydration or perspiration of the vegetable considering the Si is deposited on the epidermis of the plant's tissue it contributes to the reduction of water loss.…”
