In this controlled system, the heavy metal-sensitive bacterial strain Streptomyces lividans TK24 would die and lead to formation of SOM, while the resistant strain, S. mirabilis P16B-1 (Schmidt et al, 2008), was expected to survive or even grow without measurable contribution to SOM formation.
