Heart function disturbances in chronic kidney disease – echocardiographic indices

Abstract: IntroductionIn chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction occurs frequently and is associated with heart failure (HF) and higher mortality. Left ventricular systolic dysfunction is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) and is a major determinant of prognosis. The aim of this study was to assess indices of LV diastolic dysfunction in CKD patients.Material and methodsStudy included 118 CKD patients. All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography. Diastolic fu… Show more

“…Beside traditional risk factors including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, advanced age and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), novel risk factors such as endothelial dysfunction (ED), vascular calcification (VC), oxidative stress, and inflammation are highly prevalent and seem to play a more important role for vascular disease in renal patients compared to healthy subjects [37]. Among the risk factors mentioned above, atherosclerosis, inflammation and VC were found to be the most commonly encountered factors in the pathogenesis of CVD in ESRD patients [8, 9].…”

“…The results showed a significant increased in the screening or diagnostic tests of renal function ( BUN and SCr) (P ˃ 0.05) as shown in the table [2]. The serum urea increasing in chronic hemodialysis is proportional to the progression of the disease, which is highly influenced by a catabolic state or an excessive protein ingestion, leading to a higher production of other waste substances of protein catabolism [38] while the increase in creatinine level in the serum of patients with CRF is attributed to the decrease in the number of functioning nephrons, which would reduce the GFR, which causes major decrease in renal excretion of water and solutes [39] these results are compatible with Khalidah S. Merzah…”

“…A significant changes in serum of the diagnostic parameters of kidney functions; blood urea (BU), serum creatinine (Cr) and creatinine clearance (CrCl) in the continuouse hemodialysis patients in comparison to healthy control, as shown in table (2). There is a significant increase (P˂0.05) in concentration of blood urea and serum creatinine, while the creatinine clearance was significantly decreased (P˂ 0.05) in patients with continuous hemodialysis patients when compared to healthy control.…”

“…Индекс массы миокарда левого желудочка (ИММЛЖ) определялся следующим образом [5,7]: ИММЛЖ = ММЛЖ/Н 2,7 , ИММЛЖ = ММЛЖ/S, где Н -рост, м; S -площадь поверхности тела, м 2 . Хорошо известно, что размеры сердца связаны с размерами тела, поэтому для определения гипер-трофии миокарда левого желудочка более правильно использовать индексированные показатели [5].…”
