“…The mean LVEF was 48 ± 20.39% (95% CI: 44.89-50.75) which was higher than that reported in other previously conducted studies. 8,11,13,15,22 This might be due to the presence of a high percentage of patients with preserved LVEF (63.3%) in this study. Like the Ugandan study, 19 dyspnea on exertion (90.3%) was the most frequent clinical finding.…”

“…This finding was confirmed by other studies where ischemia, CRHD, and corpulmonale were the leading causes for AHF related hospital admission. 13,14,17,21 Despite the majority, 31.4% of patients were admitted with an unknown precipitating factor, CAP (48.2%) was the main precipitant factors among new-onset AHF patients, while non-compliance to the medication (42.6%) was the leading one among ADCHF patients. In line with a previous study conducted in Ethiopia, it was revealed that pneumonia (47.5%) and drug discontinuation (22.5%) were the top precipitating factors.…”

“…A recent nationwide survey in the Cameroonian adult population reported a prevalence of hypertension of 29.2% [25]. Hypertension was the single most common etiological risk factor reported in studies on heart failure and stroke in Cameroon [14, 26]. This high prevalence of hypertension is associated with low awareness and poor control [25, 27].…”

“…The etiology of heart failure is hypertensive heart disease (47.7%), and to treat this, discharged patients receive loop diuretics (97.9%), ACEI (70.9%), betablockers (36.9%), and aldosterone antagonist (50.6%) [9]. Thiazide diuretics are reported to exhibit better effectiveness than ACEI in cases of acute myocardial infarction (HR=0.84; 95% CI 0.75-0.95), hospitalization due to heart failure (0.83; 0.74-0.95), and stroke (0.83; 0.74-0.95) [10].…”
