Heart failure epidemiology and treatment in primary care: a retrospective cross‐sectional study

Abstract: Aims Heart failure is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, but little is known on heart failure epidemiology and treatment in primary care. This study described patients with heart failure treated by general practitioners, with focus on drug prescriptions and especially on the only specific treatment for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, namely sacubitril/valsartan. Methods and results This was a retrospective cross‐sectional study using data from an electronic medical re… Show more

“…These conditions cause the dysregulation of cellular and molecular signaling cascades leading to cardiomyocytes apoptosis, ultimately causing myocardial hypertrophy and fibrosis, all contributing to ventricular wall thickening and stiffening that ultimately compromise the heart contractile function ( Cohn et al, 2000 ; Ferrari and Rizzo, 2014 ). Even in the presence of novel therapeutics treatments, the morbidity and mortality due to HF remain high ( Rachamin et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Estima-se que o risco de um indivíduo desenvolver o quadro de insuficiência cardíaca ao longo da vida seja de 20%. A IC é considerada uma pandemia global com cerca de 26 milhões de pessoas afetadas em todo o mundo e que se destaca pela elevada mortalidade e morbidade (Ambrosy et al, 2014;Rachamin et al, 2020;Rohde et al, 2018).…”

“…Heart failure disease has been one of the major chronic cardiovascular diseases that cause morbidity, mortality, and hospitalization of all cardiac patients. Heart failure has a significantly increased lifetime risk of development is about 20% [1,2]. Other studies estimated the overall lifetime risk percent according to gender, where men 33% are higher in developing heart failure than women 28% [3,4].…”
