Health-and-usage-based maintenance policies for a partially observable deteriorating system

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to discuss the modelling and optimization of condition-based maintenance policies for systems is submitted to usage profile changes. The considered system undergoes a monotone deterioration (gamma process) and its is impacted by the usage conditions (covariates) via the proportional hazards model. Four different policies are proposed and the optimal maintenance parameters minimising the long run average maintenance cost are derived. The different maintenance policies are numerically co… Show more

“…7 Furthermore, gamma processes possess some attractive mathematical properties that facilitate model development. Some of the recent research efforts that involve the use of gamma processes include Caballe´et al, 8 Ling et al, 9 and Deloux et al 10 In most existing researches, degradation behavior is modeled by a homogeneous stochastic process. 11,12 For gamma process-based degradation modeling, this means that degradation increment in each unit time follows an identical distribution.…”

“…Given the broad spectrum of potential applications, including industry, health, and usage monitoring systems (HUMS), defense and security, earth science and aerospace, many different remote sensing approaches, operating either in a passive or active way, have been proposed or developed [1,2]. Nonetheless, the large civil and industrial use of air conditioning units, turbines, engines and electric motors makes remote detection of rotating machinery and its condition monitoring a very important subject still to be fully addressed [3,4].…”
