Headspace single drop and hollow fiber liquid phase microextractions for HPLC determination of phenols

Abstract: Two methods based on headspace single drop microextraction (HS-SDME) and headspace hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction (HS-HF-LPME) were developed and critically compared with HPLC-UV determination of phenols (including phenol (Ph), 2-chlorophenol (CP), 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP)) in this paper. The significant parameters affecting the extraction efficiency of the target analytes in both extraction modes were studied and the optimal extraction conditions were established. Un… Show more

“…Comparing with other methods, lower LOD could be obtained in the developed method than other methods with same kind of detector. Determination of phenols by SBSE-GC-MS detector [9] was more sensitive than using HPLC method with UV detection but need derivatization step during extraction [31,37,38]. For the determination of phenol and 2-CP, the proposed method exhibited a greater sensitivity than SPME-GC-MS and SPE-GC-MS.…”

“…As can be seen from Table , LODs of 2‐methylphenol and 2,4,6‐trichlorophenol obtained in this work are lower than those in refs. , while LODs of 3‐nitrophenol, 4‐chlorophenol, and 2‐nitrophenol are comparable or higher than those listed methods.…”

“…To improve the sensitivity and selectivity of the analysis, the use of an appropriate sample preparation technique before instrumental analysis is often necessary. Several methods such as liquid–liquid microextraction (LLME) , single drop microextraction (SDME) , dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) , hollow fiber liquid‐phase microextraction (HF‐LPME) , SPE , magnetic solid‐phase extraction (MSPE) , micro‐solid‐phase extraction (μ‐SPE) , dispersive micro‐solid‐phase extraction (dμ‐SPE) , magnetic micro‐solid‐phase extraction (Mμ‐SPE) , direct immersion solid‐phase microextraction (DI‐SPME) , and headspace solid‐phase microextraction (HS‐SPME) have been used for extraction and/or preconcentration of CPs in different matrices.…”
