“…Autogenous hard-palate mucosa is an effective eyelid spacer and can provide good support for the lower eyelid; however, hemorrhages and fistulas at the donor site have been described after surgery. 18,20,32 Although upper eyelid tarsus may be useful in correcting retraction of the lower eyelid in anophthalmic patients, the amount of donor tissue is limited, and may be insufficient in treating patients with severe fornix retraction. In addition, the use of upper eyelid tarsus necessitates harvesting on the upper eyelid on the affected side or on a healthy eyelid on the contralateral side, and this harvesting can result in secondary retraction of the upper eyelid and postoperative lagophthalmos.…”
