“…Previously, use of auricular cartilage grafting has been used in follow-up study to treat anophthalmic patients of different ages for eyelid malposition and inferior fornix retraction. More than 90% of patients attained successful correction [122]. Satisfactory results have been reported in anophthalmic patients treated with auricular cartilage graft for lower lid retraction [123].…”

“…31 When using the external or anterior approach, resection of the skin and especially preaponeurotic fat should be avoided or kept to a minimum as this can worsen superior sulcus syndrome. 3,34,35,36,37 Worldwide, mucous membrane grafting is the preferred surgical technique for contracted socket. 27,32,33 Regardless of approach, care should be taken to avoid surgically overcorrecting the upper eyelid as this cannot be finetuned with the prosthesis.…”

“…Furthermore, various spacers have been used to lengthen the posterior lamella of the lower lids; autologous grafts have included the hard palate mucosa, tarsus, oral mucosa membrane, dermis fat, radial forearm free flap [712], chondrocutaneous graft, and auricular cartilage graft [1315]. Homologous grafts, such as amniotic membrane grafts, sclera, and fascia lata [16, 17], have also been applied as spacers to reconstruct retracted lower lids.…”
