“…Leaf disks were selected as the model explants on the base on literature data. Strawberry plants have been regenerated not only from leaf explants (Jones et al, 1988;Liu and Sanford, 1988;Nehra et al, 1989Nehra et al, , 1990aJames et al, 1990b;Sorvari et al, 1993;Wawrzynczak et al, 1990;Passey et al, 2003) but also from runner tissues (Liu and Sanford, 1988), petioles (Rugini and Orlando, 1992;Passey et al, 2003), stem tissue (Graham et al, 1995), excised cotyledons of mature achenes (Miller and Chandler, 1990), protoplasts (Wallin et al, 1993), peduncle and stolon segments (Lis, 1993), anthers (Svensson and Johansson, 1994;Owen and Miller, 1996), mesophyll protoplasts (Nyman and Wallin, 1988), roots (Rugini and Orlando, 1992;Passey et al, 2003), stipules (Rugini and Orlando, 1992;Passey et al, 2003) and immature embryos (Wang et al, 1984). In comparable analysis the percentage of regenerated plants originated from leaf fragments was significantly higher than from other explants for most out of the analyzed cultivars (Passey et al, 2003).…”
