Handover prioritizing scheme for reducing call failure probability in cellular wireless network

Abstract: This paper proposes a scheme suitable for managing handover in wireless cellular network. The main objective of the proposed scheme is to reduce the probability of forced termination of ongoing call due to handover failure. The scheme employs a queuing discipline, and the priority of queued is based on the residual time of the mobile user in the overlap region between two adjacent cells, assuming that the user's location and speed can be determined, then we applied the ascending priority; it means that the use… Show more

“…In this case the values of P bh are mutually similar: for lower values of A p < 7E system from [25] has lower P bh , while for A p > 7E system from [25] has higher P bh . The value of P bp is always lower for the system from [25]. But, as already emphasized, the results are presented for the high value P h = 0.64, meaning that handovers are very frequent.…”

“…This leads to a remarkable probability of communication interruption and the handover mechanism becomes important for the global performance of the system. There are two types of handover events, as is the case in land mobile systems, the cell handover [5] and the satellite handover. The first one refers to the transfer of an ongoing contact from one cell to the next one in the same satellite footprint while the second one describes the transfer of an ongoing contact from a satellite to another one.…”

“…The handover has been studied from several points of view: algorithms, protocol, mechanisms, architectural, etc., [4][5][6]. The interests of the work take into account several aspects: -Improving handover (seamless handover, reduce the loss of blocking, improve network utilization, etc.,) and QoS.…”
