Half dose of prostaglandin F2a is effective to induce luteolysis in the synchronization of ovulation protocol for fixed-time artificial insemination in buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)

Abstract: 0.05). Conception rates were 48.00% (60/125) and 40.90% (56/137) in Group 1 and Control Group, respectively. It was observed that 88.60% (n = 35) of the buffaloes in Group 1 and 90.00% (n = 30) in Control Group presented luteolysis 48 hours after the PGF2alpha injection (P>0.05). In summary, present data show that both treatments result in acceptable conception rates. Therefore, the recommended dose of PGF2alpha can be reduced in 50.00% in the synchronization of ovulation protocol for fixed-time artificial ins… Show more

“…Twagiramungu et al (1994) observed that when PGF2α was administered after determining the CL with ultrasonography, 60-70% animals were detected in estrus within 4 days of post PG injection, which is lower than the present study where 90.32% animals were detected in estrus within 3 days of post PG administration. Baruselli et al (2003) and Pursley et al (1997) reported that the pregnancy rate achieved in cows and buffaloes were 30-50% through different synchronization and TAI, and this result is inconsistence with the findings of present study where pregnancy rate was 67.85%.…”

“…The 100% pregnancy rate in C treatment (300mg GnRH+5mL PGF2α) probably resulted in 100% clear signs of estrus. The appearance of a clear sign of lust can make it easier to predict the exact time of AI (Baruselli et al 2003). Irikura et al (2003) stated that the administration of GnRH combined with PGF2α in heifers resulted in a 100% pregnancy rate indicating 100% estrus.…”
