Hairy black holes in the XX-th and XXI-st centuries

Abstract: This is a brief summary of the most important hairy black hole solutions in 3+1 spacetime dimensions discovered over the last 25 years. These were first of all the Einstein-YangMills black holes and their various generalizations including the Higgs field, the dilaton and the curvature corrections, and also the Skyrme black holes. More recently, these were black holes supporting a scalar field violating the energy conditions or non-minimally coupled to gravity, and also spinning black holes with massive complex… Show more

“…Consequently, only restricted families of many modified theories of gravity turned out to be explicitly compatible with these constraints [21]. Regarding the theoretical analysis, the so-called "no-hair" theorems [22,23] provide another kind of argument to appraise the relevance of a given modified theory. Such theorems state the equivalence between a modified theory and GR relative to black hole solutions.…”

“…[3,4,5,6,7] for some reviews). In that context one of the most interesting results, in our opinion, has been the discovery of dynamically-stable 1 and asymptotically-flat classical black hole solutions of the Einstein-Skyrme equations with geometries which are not of Kerr-Newman form [8].…”

“…In this paper instead we will follow a different route. We will assume that the UV cutoff of the dark energy EFT, and 3 Note that the frequencies of the LIGO measurement of GW170817 are close to Λ 3 , so additional assumptions about the UV physics are implicitly made when using this measurement to constrain such 'cosmological' operators suppressed by Λ 3 [19]. 4 The exact definition of the operators is given below in Eq.…”
