Growth of Vesicular Stomatitis Virus in Human Myeloblasts

Abstract: A strain of Vesicular Stomatitis virus, serotype Indiana (VSV), was compared after a single in vitro passage and after 16 in vitro passages in human white blood cells from patients suffering mostly from acute myeloid leukemia. The in vitro growth characteristics of these two virus lines in white blood cells (predominantly myeloblasts) from a patient with acute myeloid leukemia were measured, starting with low multiplicities of infection. No differences were seen in the following parameters: Length of latency p… Show more

“…Conversely, a very small percentage of the PHA-stimulated and VSV-infected cultured lymphocytes may pro duce the bulk of the virus. Yields of more than 1,000 ID50 of VSV/cell have been reported in human myeloblasts [4], In PHA-stimulated human leukocytes infected with poliovirus at input multiplicities ranging from 0.005 to 5 PFU/cell, only 10% of the cells were found to produce virus on the 3rd to 4th day in culture [23].…”

“…Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) is a bullet-shaped, enveloped, negative-sense, single-stranded RNA virus, and is a member of the Rhobdaviridae family [ 1 , 2 ]. VSV is also an arbovirus, transmitted primarily by sand flies or black flies.…”
