Growth of Single Crystals of C₆₀ and C₇₀

Abstract

Large, high-quality C60 crystals with fcc structure were grown by modified vapor transport. This technique involving the use of a narrow open tube and flowing helium as a carrier gas enables growth of crystals up to 3.2 mm larger than those grown using a primary vapor trasport growth method. Single crystals of C70 with pure hcp 1 phase were also obtained.
