Background: Struvite also called as infection stones occur in the urinary system of humans particularly the women community. The present work was aimed to grow struvite crystals in-vitro using single diffusion gel growth technique and to understand the effect of phyllanthus emblica on its growth. Methods: Sodium metasilicate gel of density 1.03 g/cc was used as the medium for growing the struvite crystals; The phyllanthus emblica extract of 5 % M/V concentration was used to understand its effect on struvite crystal crystal nucleation and growth. The well grown crystal samples were characterized by powder XRD, FTIR, UV-vis, Microhardness, SEM and Thermal analysis.

To investigate the inhibitory effect of lemon and orange juices on the growth of struvite crystals. Struvite crystals were grown by the single diffusion gel growth technique and the inhibitory effect of lemon and orange juices on the growth of struvitecrystals has been studied. With an increase in the concentration of lemon and orange juices, the weight of the formed crystals was gradually reduced from 2.49 g to 0.09 g (lemon juice) and 2.49 g to 0.21 g (orange juice) for the struvite crystals, respectively. The crystals harvested from the treated lemon and orange juices were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to confirm the functional groups. Results obtained indicated that lemon juice has the potential to inhibit the formation of struvitecrystals as compared to orange juice. This study confirms that using lemon juice can promote the formation of ammonium magnesium phosphate hexahydratecrystals and reduce the nucleation rate of struvitecrystals, a major component of urinary stone.

The present work was aimed to investigate the In vivo antiurolithiatic activity of aqueous bark extract of Crateva magna Lour. (DC). The In vivo antiurolithiatic activity was carried out by Molybdate U.V., OCPC, Calmagite, Erba diagnostics Mannheim Gmbh methods. The antiurolithiatic activity of Aqueous extract of Crateva magna Lour. (DC) bark extract in 100 mg/kg b. wt and 200 mg/ kg/b wt at 28 days' administration was compared with standard drug cystone. Urine, Serum and the Histopathological examinations showed that the treatment with Crateva magna Lour. (DC) aqueous bark extract decreased the number and size of calcium oxalate deposits in different parts of the renal tubules and al so prevented damages to the tubules and calyxes. This is the first study demonstrating the antiurolithiatic activity of aqueous bark extract of C. magna. This study also provides a significant basis for further isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from C. magna.
