This study investigated the metabolic and hematological responses of silver catfish fed diets composed of different protein sources for 90 days. Six different diets were formulated: MBY (meat and bone meal + yeast); SY (soybean meal + yeast); S (soybean meal); MBS (meat and bone meal + soybean meal); FY (fish meal + yeast); FS (fish meal + soybean meal). In the liver, the concentration of glucose, lactate and protein was lower in fish fed SY and S diets. Liver glycogen did not differ between diets. At the muscular level, the glycogen, glucose, lactate content was lower in the FS diet, while the protein decreased in the fish that received the soybean meal-based diet (S). On the other hand, higher values of protein, glucose and lactate were observed in the diet containing meat and bone meal + soybean meal (MBS). The silver catfish fed diets based on fish meal (FY and FS) had a higher protein content in the kidney. Hematological parameters were influenced by diets. The absence of animal protein sources in the diets resulted in lower values of hematocrit and hemoglobin in silver catfish blood. It is concluded that diets containing vegetable and animal protein sources improve the nutritional and health status of silver catfish.

La actividad antimicrobiana de aceites esenciales (AEO) del orégano mexicano (Lippia berlandieri) fue evaluada contra bacterias que viven en estanques de camarón. Un AEO tuvo mayor contenido de timol y el otro tuvo mayor contenido de carvacrol, ambos compuestos tienen propiedades antimicrobianas. Aislados bacterianos (n = 19) fueron recolectados en granjas camaronícolas, de hepatopáncreas de camarón, agua de estanque y/o sedimentos. El género Pseudomonas fue el más frecuente ya que se encontró en cuatro de 13 granjas, y fue aislada principalmente de hepatopáncreas. Todos los aislados se usaron para evaluar el efecto antimicrobiano de cinco antibióticos y los dos AEOs mediante pruebas de zona de inhibición. La actividad antimicrobiana de los dos AEOs fue estadísticamente significativa contra siete especies bacterianas, comparada con los otros antibióticos (P < 0.007143). Las especies bacterianas sensibles al AEO rico en timol fueron Serratia marcescens, Proteus vulgaris y Salmonella spp., mientras que Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens y Salmonella typhi fueron susceptibles al AEO rico en carvacrol. El AEO rico en timol tuvo un efecto antibacterial significativamente mayor que la oxitetraciclina, magnamicina, aviflox y enrofloxacina, mientras que el AEO rico en carvacrol superó a la oxitetraciclina y magnamicina. En conclusión, los dos AEOs evaluados tuvieron mayores propiedades antibacteriales que la de varios de los antibióticos usados en este estudio.

The increase in the production of aquaculture products confirms the relevance of the development of feed production in order to provide the industry with high-quality compound feeds and feed additives that meet modern requirements and biological needs of cultivated fish. Therefore, the development of aquaculture requires special attention to the feeding process and the use of full-fledged and environmentally safe feeds for all types of aquacultures. Antioxidants of natural origin are increasingly used in feed production. In the course of the work, the positive properties of antioxidant complexes containing the bioflavonoid dihydroquercetin in combination with vitamin E were studied when enriching the diet of a tilapia hybrid (Oreochromis mossambicus × Oreochromis niloticus). As a result of the research, it was found that the inclusion of dihydroquercetin in the composition of production feeds significantly improved productivity indicators and the main criteria for the formation of muscle mass in fish. The use of bioflavonoid dihydroquercetin allowed to increase productivity by 30.0%. The positive effect of the feed additive on morphological and biochemical parameters of blood was noted, which indicates an increase in natural resistance. The study of feed quality indicators confirmed the inhibition of oxidation processes in feed with the addition of dihydroquercetin. During the period of storage of feed in the experimental batch of feed, the level of peroxide number decreased by 3 times, and the acid number decreased by 28.4%. Taking into account the positive properties of bioflavonoid, it is recommended to further study the effectiveness of this biologically active additive in order to introduce it more widely into the practice of feed production.
