Identification of Groundwater Potential Zones Using Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques: A Case Study of the Shatt Al-Arab Basin

Rapid population growth has raised the groundwater resources demand for socio-economic development in the Shatt Al-Arab basin. The sustainable management of groundwater resources requires precise quantitative evaluation, which can be achieved by applying scientific principles and modern techniques. An integrated concept has been used in the current study to identify the groundwater potential zones (GWPZs) in the Shatt Al-Arab basin using remote sensing (RS), geographic information system (GIS), and analytic hierarchy process (AHP). For this purpose, nine groundwater occurrence and movement controlling parameters (i.e., lithology, rainfall, geomorphology, slope, drainage density, soil, land use/land cover, distance to river, and lineament density) were prepared and transformed into raster data using ArcGIS software. These nine parameters (thematic layers) were allocated weights proportional to their importance. Furthermore, the hierarchical ranking was conducted using a pairwise comparison matrix of the AHP in order to estimate the final normalized weights of these layers. We used the overlay weighted sum technique to integrate the layers for the creation of the GWPZs map of the study area. The map has been categorized into five zones (viz., very good, good, moderate, poor, and very poor) representing 4, 51, 35, 9, and 1% of the study area, respectively. Finally, for assessing the effectiveness of the model, the GWPZs map was validated using depth to groundwater data for 99 wells distributed over the basin. The validation results confirm that the applied approach provides significantly solid results that can help in perspective planning and sustainable utilization of the groundwater resources in this water-stressed region.

Women entrepreneurs are indeed an integral element of the world financial system today and played a critical job in it. For long-term growth in the economy and social advancement, the inclusion of women in entrepreneurship is crucial. While playing a significant part in Indian society, females’ economic potential has not yet been fully realized because of their inferior social position. This essay's major goal is to assess the situation of female entrepreneurs in the nation of India. It also focuses on the reasons why women choose to become businesses. In an effort to determine if the actions and policies done by the government of India to promote female entrepreneurs are adequate or not, an analysis of such policies and actions has also been made. Some recommendations are made to support the entrepreneurial drive in women on the foundation of this research

The importance of groundwater is growing based on an increase in need and decrease in the availability of fresh surface water sources and adequate rainfall. Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) has become one of the leading tools in the field of hydrogeological science, which helps in assessing, monitoring and conserving groundwater resources. This paper describes the results of a groundwater potentiality and quality assessment conducted in Koduvan Ár sub-watershed of Meenachil river basin, Kottayam district of Kerala state, in the Republic of India. Shallow groundwater is the main source of drinking water in urban and rural areas, but reliable spatial data on its potentiality and quality are currently insufficient for developing the water-supply systems with standard designs. The methodology used in the present study includes an integrated approach of remote sensing and GIS for the construction of groundwater potentiality map and the assessment of water quality of identified wells. Different spatial data layers such as, geomorphology, lithology, slope and land use/ land cover are generated and the interrelationship between these layers were analyzed to identify and assess the groundwater potentiality of the area. The final result depicts the favourable prospective zones in the study area with its quality parameters and can be helpful to formulate recommendations to reduce the water scarcity and quality risks for public health.
