Continuous monitoring of surface water is essential in terms of heavy metals investigation. Therefore, surface water quality is an environmental aspect which should be analyzed and monitored depending on its spatial distribution. The aim of this study is to provide an overview for evaluation of surface water pollution in the Mitrovica area by applying spatial distribution using Geographic Information System (GIS), geostatistical and non-geostatistical techniques. Nowadays, GIS with the geostatistics and non-geostatistics are very frequently used techniques in environmental monitoring studies. By providing the spatial distribution, there is possibility to place the pollution values in space. The surface water pollution caused by heavy metals (As, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn and Cd) were sampled and analyzed from six monitoring stations in Sitnica river on different time series within three months countineously. The monitoring stations (samples) in Sitnica river were been distributed randomly. Pollution maps were produced using geostatistical and non-geostatistical (Spline and Kriging) approach. There were produced different pollution values in Sitnica river during the period of monitoring. Mainly the north part of Sitnica river has been poluted mostly with Heavy Metal Pollution Index (HPI) from 50 to 85 in the month of May, from 125 to 265 in the month of June and from 320 to 535 in the month of July. As well as the Metal Index (MI) from 0.60 to 2.05 in the month of May, June and July. The different statistical models were tested for geostatistical and non-geostatistical techniques in order to identify the best fitted technique for the pollution indices and the best interpolation techniques were selected on the basis of Mean Square Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). These statistical tested model have shown that the best fitted interpolation technique is Kriging because of the lowest values of MSE, MAD, RMSE, MAE and MAPE. In the study were involved statistical models such as correlation and regression, for showing the relation between time series datasets and interpolated pollution indices as well. The cartographic output derived from the study were raster maps (15m spatial resolution) which represent the spatial distribution of surface water pollution as a result of monitoring process on time series. It is our believe that the present study will be used as a reference study for further environmental investigation and monitoring in Mitrovica since.

The aim of this study was to provide an overview for assessing the groundwater quality of Isparta province center using Geographical Information System (GIS) and geostatistical algorithms. In this study calcium (Ca 2+ ), magnesium (Mg 2+ ), sodium (Na + ), chloride (Cl -), nitrate (NO 3 -), electrical conductivity (EC) and temperature (T) parameters of waters were used. To reduce the skewness in the distributions of the groundwater chemical parameters, a data transformation process has been performed and it has been determined that the best semivariogram model based on the root mean square error (RMSE) changes for each water quality parameter. The normal kriging method has been applied to map the spatial distribution of groundwater chemistry. In terms of drinking water quality standards, all locations except for two locations have been found in accordance with the TS 266 (2005) criteria. High concentrations of NO 3 -in unsuitable locations (IC-3 and IC-8) were thought to be related to agricultural activities in the region. Medical Wastewater Characterization in the Gaza Strip: Al-Shifa Medical Complex as a Case Study

Al-Shifa medical complex is one of the most famous medical complex in the Gaza Strip. Since 1946 it was expanded many times, nowadays, the total clinical capacity has 564 beds on an area of 42,000 m 2. The main aim of the current research is to characterize the medical wastewater in the Gaza Strip. Currently, wastewater from hospitals is discharged to the public network then to overloaded central wastewater treatment plants, where partially treated effluent is infiltrate to the groundwater and the majority discharged to the sea. Composite samples from different sectors of the complex are collected every two hours for 24 hours and analyzed for physical and chemical characteristics. The pH from different medical sectors showed an acceptable range for disposal to the public network, while the salinity was extremely high and differs from sector to another. The Surgery department recorded the highest wastewater pollution i.e. TSS, BOD, and COD accounted for 3008, 1150, and 5350 mg/L, respectively, while the highest TKN (117 mg/L) was from the surgery operation room. Heavy metals such as Cd, Zn, and Pb in the medical wastewater from Al-Shifa medical complex do not constitute a threat to public wastewater sewerage system, mostly below the detection limits. It is highly recommended to further investigate the causes of strong pollution from both the surgery department and surgery room to propose pretreatment before disposal to the public network. Microbiology and infectious diseases and radioactive pollution should be considered in future planned research to gain comprehensive medical waste characteristics in the Gaza Strip.
