Groundwater Depth Prediction Using Data-Driven Models with the Assistance of Gamma Test

Abstract: Prediction of the groundwater dynamics via models can help better manage the groundwater resources and guarantee their sustainable use. Three types of data-driven models are built for groundwater depth prediction in the plain of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province in North China. The data-driven models include the Power Function Model (PFM), Back-Propagation Artificial Neural Network (BPANN) and Support Vector Machines (SVM) with two kernel functions of linear kernel function (LKF) and radial basis fun… Show more

“…An ANN is a computer system that simulates the learning process of human neurons. Among the various training methods, the Back Propagation Network (BPN) method is the most widely used because of its effectiveness and short learning time [28]. The BPN method was used to develop a prediction model with the basic network structure shown in Figure 3 [29].…”

“…The key to the accuracy of SVM regression model is the penalty factor C and the width of kernel function σ [36]. Therefore, this paper chooses the improved CS algorithm to optimize C and σ in order to improve the generalization ability of SVM.…”

“…Data driven models are developed with existing data and information on the relationship between input and output parameters. ese models are location specific, with the output values being applicable only to the location where it is developed [10]. Statistical, fuzzy, regression, and ANN are mathematical approaches typically used in these data-driven models.…”
