“…The induced expression of CsCHS in germinal leaves is consistent with the elevation in catechol levels in processed tea, indicating that the use of HpaG Xooc or HpaG 1-94 plays a role in modulating catechol biosynthesis, which is essentially regulated by CsCHS activity (Kato et al 2000;Misako and Kouichi 2004;Punyasiri et al 2004). It can be assumed that either of the proteins applied to growing tea plants could subsequently increase the medicinal properties of green tea through the biochemical effects of the compounds (Shibata et al 2000;Cooper et al 2005;Shimizu and Weinstein 2005). The concomitant decrease in transcripts of TCS1 and CsSAMS suggest that theine synthesis may be downregulated by the application of HpaG Xooc or HpaG 1-94 .…”
