Green Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles Using Tridax Procumbens for Topical Application: Excision Wound Model and Histopathological Studies

Abstract: The objective of this study was to synthesize silver nanoparticles from the leaves of Tridax procumbens and develop its topical gels using chitosan to investigate the wound healing efficacy concomitant with the histopathological study. Green synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were prepared by reacting silver nitrate (0.3 M) with leaf extract and characterized by particle analysis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, BET, and TGA. The results revealed formed AgNPs were nano-sized (138 ± 2.1 nm), monodispersed (PDI: 0.460 ± 0… Show more

“…Therefore, chitosan has a synergistic effect, enhancing the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles in the formulation of gel hand sanitizers. Silver nanoparticles coated with a polymer (chitosan) have also been successfully synthesized in several previous studies [52,66,67]. A similar diameter of the inhibition zone was found in the present study compared to previous research.…”

“…They are all heavily influenced by available surface area, pore size distribution, and other factors. 314,315 The immunological response to the first stage of wound healing necessitates significant participation of elements from the blood (e.g., granulocytes) and WBC fractions (e.g., macrophages, mast cells, lymphocytes, and neutrophils). To avoid microbial infections, the attracted cells generate many helpful chemicals such as epidermal growth factors, chemokinetic factors, and other substances.…”

“…Skin injuries can be acute or chronic and can occur in arterial insufficiency, diabetes mellitus, immunological disorders, and other infections. Rarely does complete re-epithelialization happen in repairing skin defects; hence, increased attention is diverted to preparing wound dressings to promote wound healing and reduce scars while also protecting from microbial infections and dehydration at the wound site [ 336 , 337 ].…”
