Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Extract of Artemisia absinthium L., Humulus lupulus L. and Thymus vulgaris L., Physico-Chemical Characterization, Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activity

Abstract: The novelty of this study is twofold: AgNPs were obtained and characterized using Artemisia absinthium (A. absinthium), Humulus lupulus (H. lupulus), and Thymus vulgaris (T. vulgaris) plants extracts; moreover, a green and environmentally friendly approach for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using aqueous extracts was developed. This paper discusses new approaches about the synthesis of AgNPs. T. vulgaris, H. lupulus, and A. absinthium, which are renewable and common plants, perfect as reducing, … Show more

“…This study ascertained that the berries and leaves of different cultivars of A. kolomikta accumulated a variety of phenolic compounds with high antioxidant activity from 720.64 µg/g to 1684.48 µg/g and from 1420.44 to 76,679.72, respectively. These results strongly support possible applications for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and food industries, and green synthesis for nanoparticles, for example, as a capping and reducing agent in nanoparticle synthesis [38].…”

“…It should be remembered that MHB is a culture medium recommended by the US Food and Drug Administration, World Health Organization, EUCAST and CLSI for testing the susceptibility of aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria to antimicrobial agents [ 356 , 403 ]. In addition, cation-adjusted MHB 2 (CAMHB) broth, which corresponds to MHB in which divalent ions (e.g., calcium and magnesium) have been adjusted, can greatly reduce the MIC of several antibiotics (e.g., daptomycin, quinolones, aminoglycosides, and tetracycline) by affecting their mode of action and stability [ 356 ].…”
