Green Shipping Practices of Shipping Firms

Abstract: Abstract:The primary objective of this study is to provide an empirical research using structural equation modeling to identify the factors that motivate shipping firms to adopt green shipping practices (GSP). Furthermore, it also examines if adopting GSP can enhance the shipping firms' environmental and productivity performance. The findings show that shipping firms are motivated to adopt GSP mostly by industrial norms set by institutionalized associations. They are also motivated by customers' demand for env… Show more

Many papers have the issue of "green shipping" as a topic [67][68][69][70][71]. Topics #6 and #7 are close to the others, which means it represents one common issue: emissions and environment issues for shipping sustainability, including ship emissions [72][73][74][75][76], truck and intermodal emissions [77], emission regulation and policy [1,10,78,79], and emission calculation [80].…”

“…The results therefore confirm Hypothesis 1. Several authors [29,30,46,58] confirm the impact of pollution on green shipping, arising from solid and liquid sediments from routine operations and air pollution by ships, together with the efficiency of ships in terms of technology used and its consumption that the literature [27,41,42] considers essential to green shipping and green management.…”

“…Organizational improvements (company policy and transportation documentation) and improvements in technology (equipment and transport design) reduce some of the environmental impacts and contribute positively to green shipping [27]. Transport technology improves products and processes, allowing a cleaner and eco-efficient production [41,42], responding to pressure from customers and the effort to improve the public image of firms in the sector. The adoption of green shipping practices can improve the environmental and productivity performance of the shipping companies [43].…”
