Green apparel buying behaviour: A Stimulus–Organism–Behaviour–Consequence (SOBC) perspective on sustainability‐oriented consumption in Japan

Abstract: The green apparel literature has previously examined the disparity between consumers' positive purchase intentions and their actual purchase behaviour. This dichotomous behaviour represents the critical ‘intention–behaviour gap’, which marketers must seek to reduce to increase sales of their products. The current study thus seeks to identify the drivers of green apparel purchase behaviour that may potentially mitigate this gap. The proposed conceptual model is grounded in the Stimulus–Organism–Behaviour–Conseq… Show more

“…The rise in global surface average temperature is largely attributable to the elevated levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) pollutants, which are directly driven by the combustion of fossil fuels for human activity purposes (Zhang et al, 2011 ; Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), 2007 , 2011 , 2014 ; Özokcu & Özdemir, 2017 ). As a response, growing attention has been paid to expanding the concept of sustainability and sustainable development (SD) (Awan et al, 2020 ; Dhir et al, 2021 ; Madanaguli et al, 2021 ). Early, this concept took a multifaced dimension.…”

“…Common method bias (CMB) is a major issue in social science research [19]. To assure that our data are free from CMB, we followed two steps: (1) Negatively worded questions were asked to ensure that respondents did not divert from the survey [43]. (2) Harman's single factor test was conducted using exploratory factor analysis (SPSS).…”

“…Environmentalists and scholars suggest gauging environmental concern as an important step toward understanding environmental activism in the nation [21]. The literature indicates that environmental concern is a significant driver of eco-friendly tourist behavior [8], which possibly impact tourists' decision-making choices [43]. There is, therefore, a high likelihood that tourists with a high concern for the environment will exhibit eco-friendly tourist behavior [23].…”
