Grating tuned Ti:Sa laser for in-source spectroscopy of Rydberg and autoionizing states

Abstract: Due to the large absorption cross section for optical transitions into Rydberg and autoionizing states compared to non-resonant ionization, these states are of particular interest for use in efficient laser resonance ionization excitation schemes as used in Resonant Ionization Laser Ion Sources (RILIS). In order to identify these atomic states extensive laser spectroscopy has to be performed. The lasers employed at TRIUMF's laser ion source are birefringent filter tuned titanium:sapphire (Ti:Sa) lasers which a… Show more

“…The search for new second-step transitions ( λ 2 ) to higher lying atomic states, was performed at the TRIUMF-ISAC radioactive ion beam facility with the TRILIS laser ion source21. The fundamental output of a widely tunable grating-based Ti:sapphire (Ti:Sa) laser22 was used to scan λ 2 between 710 and 915 nm in a three-colour scheme {216; λ 2 ; 532}, see Fig. 1c.…”

“…The resonant laser ion source RILIS at ISOLDE [83] is now the mostly used of all ion sources at ISOLDE. It has also been well established at TRIUMF [84] and was demonstrated at the Holyfield Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) [85]. Developments towards a laser ion source at SPIRAL2 are going on at ALTO and at GANIL.…”

“…Details of the laser system are given in [22][23][24]. For wide range scans we use a modified laser design, featuring a diffraction grating in Littrow configuration for frequency selection [25]. This laser type has an output power of up to 2 W and can be tuned mod-hop-free from 700 nm to 1020 nm.…”
