Grapevine Girdling by Morphactin in Oil

The influence of girdling on flower type and number, inflorescence density, and fruit set in 3 different olive cultivars (Barnea, Picual, and Souri) under intensive growing conditions using saline irrigation water was studied for 3 years. The density of inflorescences on the branches was not affected by girdling in any of the 3 cultivars during any of the 3 consecutive years studied. Also, no clear relation between the number of flowers and girdling was found in any of the 3 cultivars tested. The percentage of perfect flowers on the girdled scaffolds of cvv. Barnea and Picual increased significantly, except for Picual in 2002 where no differences were observed. However, no such difference between the non-girdled and girdled scaffolds was observed in cv. Souri. Comparison of fruit set on non-girdled and girdled scaffolds showed a similar and generally positive response to the treatment in the examined cultivars. However, in the third year of the study, no significant difference between the non-girdled and girdled scaffolds was observed. A significantly higher yield of the girdled trees was measured in the 3 cultivars during the first year after the winter girdling. Due to the young age of the trees the effect of girdling on yield was not further recorded. Fruit size on the girdled scaffolds was smaller than those from the non-girdled ones, as a consequence a higher percentage of fruit set was observed on the first ones. The results presented in this study point to different varietal responses of olive trees to girdling. However, this might also be due to the young age of the trees in this study as well as the peculiar agronomic condition of the trees.

ÖZET u çalışma, 2015 yılı vejetasyon periyodunda Ahmetli ilçesi'nde 7 yaşında yerli köklü olarak yetiştirilen Süperior Seedless (Vitis vinifera L.) sofralık üzüm çeşidinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deneme tesadüf blokları desenine göre 7 uygulama ve 3 tekerrürlü olarak düzenlenmiştir. Tüm kültürel uygulamalar ben düşme döneminde yapılırken, GA3 10 ppm olarak somak uzatmak için (salkım uzunluğu 7-8 cm ulaştığında) uygulanmıştır. Kontrol asmalara sadece su püskürtülmüştür. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Salkım Ucu Kesme (SUK), Bilezik Alma (BA), Salkım Ucu Kesimi + Bilezik Alma (SUK+BA), Gibberellik Asit + Bilezik Alma (GA3+BA) ve Gibberellik Asit + Salkım Ucu Kesimi + Bilezik Alma (GA3+ SUK +BA) uygulamaların üzüm verim ve bazı kalite özellikleri üzerine etkilerini ortaya koymaktır. Süperior Seedless'de tüm uygulamalar verim, salkım ağırlığı, salkım eni ve boyu, salkım en/boy oranı, tane ağırlığı, tane en ve boyu, çözünebilir kuru madde ve asitlik üzerine etkisi istatistiki (P<0.05) olarak önemli bulunmuştur. En yüksek üzüm verimi, salkım ağırlığı ve salkım uzunluğu GA3+BA, en yüksek tane ağırlığı, en uzun tane boyu BA, en yüksek çözünebilir kuru madde değerleri sırasıyla GA3 + SUK + BA ve GA3+ BA uygulamalarından elde edilmiştir. Bu araştırmanın sonucu olarak sofralık Süperior Seedless üzüm çeşidi yetiştiriciliği için genel olarak önerilebilir en iyi uygulama GA3+BA dır. ABSTRACT his study was carried out on own rooted 7 years old Superior Seedless (Vitis vinifera L.) table grape variety in a vegetation season of 2015 in Ahmetlidistrict. The experiment was completely randomized block design with 7 treatment combinations replicated in three blocks. When all treatments was used at fruit set, GA3 as 10 ppm dosage used for elongate cluster (when cluster length reached 7-8 cm). Control (C) only water was sprayed. The aim of this study was revealed effects of applications on grape yield and some quality characteristics of Cluster Tipping (CT), Girdling (G), CT+G, GA3+CT, GA3+G, GA3+G+CT. It was found that all applications generally had statistically (P<0.05) significant effects on grape yield, cluster weight, cluster width, berry length, berry width, berry length/berry width, soluble solid and titratable acidity in Superior Seedless. The highest grape yield, cluster weight, cluster length were obtained in GA3+G, the highest berry weight, the longest berry length were obtained in G, the highest soluble solid value were obtained in GA3 + CTR+ G and GA3+G respectively. As results of this study, general recommendation is made of GA3+G the most suitable application for growing Superior Seedless table grape variety.
