“…These settings allow the GAT to analyse and compare a high number of cases worldwide. Until now the GAT has been used mainly to analyse single cases such as: Palestine (Al-Khatib, Shoqier, Özerol, & Majaj, 2017;Judeh, Haddad, & Özerol, 2017) Mexico (Casiano & Boer de, 2015;Casiano Flores et al, 2017 and England (Vikolainen, Flikweert, Bressers, & Lulofs, 2017). The only comparative analyses until now, correspond to North-west Europe and to an analysis on collaboration in five cases (de Boer et al, 2016).…”

“…Therefore, GAT can be considered as a context-sensitive framework that is part of the academic response to "panacea" or "universal remedy" frameworks [65]. The GAT has already proven strengths in understanding Western European governance contexts of water and climate change resilience projects [66][67][68][69]. It has also been used by researchers to create an online tool for policymakers in urban water transition projects [70].…”

“…The UK has a high number of critical infrastructure sites located on its North Sea coast (Brown et al, 2014). Within the region of East Anglia there are many critical national infrastructure sites that are threatened, including Bacton Gas terminal (Vikolainen et al, 2017), through which a third of the UK gas supply flows, and the Sizewell Nuclear power plant (Armstrong et al, 2015) (one of the largest investment areas in the UK). There are many locations in the South East of England where justification is seen to exist for continued use of hard adaptation measures (Jones et al, 2015); this includes infrastructure choke points in East Anglia and densely populated urban areas.…”

“…Rupp- Nicholls (2007, p.1422) have outlined how 'regional assessments of Suffolk and Norfolk' have suggested there is large potential for Managed Realignment producing a 'net gain in inter-tidal habitats' and that 'the majority of Managed Realignment sites are situated on England's East Coast in particular East Anglia' where '30% of the UK salt marsh habitat' is located. Another soft adaptation measure, termed the 'Sand Engine', originating in the Netherlands, is also currently being considered for implementation in the coastal area surrounding Bacton Gas terminal (Vikolainen et al, 2017). In East Anglia, a broad span of projects of note have been undertaken focusing on coastal change and risk, combining stakeholders and multiple academic organisations.…”
