Gold Nanoparticles With Special Shapes: Controlled Synthesis, Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering, and The Application in Biodetection

Abstract: Specially shaped gold nanoparticles have intrigued considerable attention because they usually possess high-sensitivity surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and thus result in large advantages in trace biodetermination. In this article, starch-capped gold nanoparticles with hexagon and boot shapes were prepared through using a nontoxic and biologically benign aqueous-phase synthetic route. Shape effects of gold nanoparticles on SERS properties were mainly investigated, and found that different-shaped gold … Show more

“…XRD of synthesized GNP confirmed that the GNPs were in good agreement with previously reported data (Figure 2). 44,45 Photon cross-correlation spectroscopy (particle-size analyser) ( Figure 3D) and TEM findings ( Figure 3C) bolstered GNP size (22.4 and 21 ± 2.5 nm, respectively). Here, we used appropriate and optimum size and concentration (21 ± 2.5 nm and 0.2 mg/mL) of GNP, which is compatible with mammalian cells, as described elsewhere.…”

“…43 Figure 2 shows a typical powder XRD pattern of GNPs and confirmed the XRD peaks 111, 200, 220, and 311, which are in good agreement with previously reported data. 44,45 GNP size (21 ± 2.5 nm) and hydrodynamic mean diameter (22.4 nm) were analyzed and measured by TEM and cross-correlation spectroscopy instruments, respectively ( Figure 3C and D, respectively). It was observed that particles were ellipsoidal and quite stable as their sizes and shape remained constant after synthesis.…”

“…Gold and silver nanoparticles are commonly used as SERS substrates with gold particles being used more frequently due to their high sensitivity and stability compared to silver compounds [5][6][7][8]. It must be noted that the enhanced Raman signal enabled by the plasmon resonance of gold and silver nanoparticles gave rise to new biosensors that have been used for identifying the binding region in proteins [9], and for studying binding affinity of immunoreactions [10].…”
