Glycerides ofLimnanthes douglasii seed oil

Abstract: Brockerhoff‐type procedures were used to determine the amounts of each acyl group at each glyceride position ofLimnanthes douglasii seed oil. During the course of the analyses, small quantities of three acids isomeric with those previously found in the oil were identified by their ozonolysis products and their gas‐liquid chromatographic (GLC) behavior. The newly discovered constituents of the oil were 3‐octadecenoic acid (0.1%), 5‐octadecenoic acid (0.9%) and 11‐eicosenoic acid (3%). The saturated acids and th… Show more

“…In contrast, most meadowfoam seed oils are composed of more than 90% VLCFAs (Miller et al, 1964). The 9 -2 position of at least one species, Limnnnthes douglasii, has a 22:1 content that is enriched relative to total oil composition (Phillips et al, 1971).…”

“…Palm seed TAG contain about 52% lauric acid and 10% oleic acid (5). Meadowfoam seed TAG have roughly 62% 5-eicosenoic acid, 18% 5,13-docosdienoic acid, and 12% 13-docosenoic acid (erucic acid) (11). Maize kernel was chosen to represent the seeds of usual temperate crops, and its TAG possess some 60% linoleic acid and 30% oleic acid (9).…”

“…Limnanthes seed oil consists of more than 90% of VLCFAs (Lassner et al, 1995;Miller et al, 1964). The sn-2-position of Limnanthes douglasii, has a higher content of C22:1 relative to the total oil composition (Lassner et al, 1995;Phillips et al, 1971). Thus, cDNA encoding 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase in L. douglasii was introduced into rape.…”
