Gluonic hadrons

Abstract: The standard theory of colour forces (QCD) suggests that in addition to the familiar hadrons made of quarks, there should exist new states where coloured gluons play an essential dynamical role. I review the theoretical predictions for the properties of these 'glueballs' and of states containing resonating quarks and gluons (variously called 'hybrids', 'hermaphrodites' or 'meiktons'). I attempt to highlight those features which are common to several models in the literature. Experimental candidates are confron… Show more

“…This state is also important because it is related to two basic phenomena of QCD: the anomalous breaking of dilatation invariance and the generation of the gluon condensate. In a widely studied phenomenological scenario two scalarisoscalar quarkonia,nn = (ūu +dd)/ √ 2 andss, and one bare glueball state mix and form the scalar resonances f 0 (1370), f 0 (1500), and f 0 (1710) [5][6][7][8][9]. Our aim is to investigate this system by using a three-flavor chiral effective approach which we describe in the following.…”
