Glulam-concrete composites: experimental investigation into the connection system

Abstract: Timber-concrete composite structures work appropriately when a suitable connection system is included because the degree of interaction between the materials stiffs the structural system. Thereby, it is extremely important to improve the knowledge about their connection system. The purpose of this paper is to show the results obtained by experimental investigation into push-out shear tests of glulam-concrete specimens. The specimens were designed to simulate the behaviour of composite T beams and the connectio… Show more

“…As discussed in previous reports it is important investigating wood from different species as alternatives in preparing Glued Laminated Timber [1]. As an engineered wood product Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam) requires manufacturing precision in all its stages [2][3][4], and only laboratory tests can be used to evaluate finished specimens [5][6][7].…”

“…These connections have exhibited good ductility and a quite acceptable slip modulus and load-bearing capacity. Miotto and Dias (2008) investigated connection systems made of rebars of two different diameters glued into timber holes drilled at a 45º angle to the timber grain (Fig. 7i).…”

“…The use of this adhesive was used by Azambuja and Dias (2006) and Miotto and Dias (2011) in glulam, where efficacy was evidenced in relation to the structural performance view, besides the viability of the adhesive application in glulam. From this, the objective of this paper was to evaluate the effect of the number of laminae on the physical and mechanical behavior of glulam of Toona ciliata (Australian cedar) produced from polyurethane adhesive based on castor oil.…”
