Glove-finger dressing in paediatric hypospadias

Abstract: Dressing post-operative hypospadias using a glove finger is technically easy to apply, inspect, and remove; gives uniform compression; is cheap and easily available; prevents contamination; and does not slip like ordinary dressings.

“…The same author also proposed cut glove fingers as a dressing especially for child hypospadias cases. [4] He admits that this material could not be used for scrotal and perineal hypospadias cases. Another problem was that this material did not have exudate absorbing capacity.…”

“…Several different materials have been used for this purpose, including petrolatum gauze, silastic foam, [2] elastic bandage, [3] glove finger, [4] Opsite, [5] and Coban bandage™. All the above-mentioned materials cause different problems both for the patient and for the surgeon.…”

“…3 Novel methods used and found suitable include polyurethrane bio occlusive foil, Cavi care, SANAV, glove-finger, Fibrin seal (Tisseal), Melolin and adhesive membrane dressings. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Silicon foam dressing was found effective in restricting edema, haematoma formation and stabilization with easy removal. 11 Peha-Haft is a cohesive elastic conforming bandage with extra strong adhesive effect due to its crepe texture and special latex coating.…”

“…Probably, one of the most controversial aspects of hypospadias surgery is the election of an appropriate wound dressing [1]. Multiple dressings have been previously described, using different types of materials such as silastic foam, elastic bands, glove finger, Tegaderm, Opsite, Cavicare and the more recent silicone-foam sheets (Mepilex and Allevyn) [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. Nevertheless, there is no evidence in the current literature about the best method for postoperative dressing following hypospadias repair [1,15].…”
