Global Water Crisis: Concept of a New Interactive Shower Panel Based on IoT and Cloud Computing for Rational Water Consumption

Abstract: The present paper describes the problem and effects of water scarcity and the possibility of rational use of this resource in the idea of a Circular Economy (CE) and sustainable development. Rational water management requires innovation, due to the growing demand for this raw material. It seems that water is widely available, e.g., in Poland, there is no problem with drought. Unfortunately, Polish water resources are shrinking and modern solutions, as well as the construction of new and modernisation of old in… Show more

“…Even though 71% of the earth's surface is covered by water, 1 more than one-third of the world's population faces severe freshwater scarcity because only a tiny percentage of the total is available as accessible freshwater. [2][3][4] This shortage of freshwater is not only incompetent to meet the drinking water issue but also pushes humankind to get infected with severe life-threatening diseases due to inadequate sanitation. [5][6][7][8] To solve this crisis, scientists have come up with various water purification techniques where 90% of the water purification plants use the reverse osmotic (RO) technique for the desalination of seawater.…”

“…Even though 71% of the Earth's surface is covered with water, 1 only a tiny percentage is available as freshwater. [2][3][4] In consequence, more than one-third of the world's population faces severe freshwater scarcity that limits access to safe water for drinking and maintaining basic hygiene. [5][6][7][8] To solve these issues, scientists have devised various water purication techniques, and in 90% of these cases, the reverse osmosis (RO) method is applied for the desalination of seawater.…”

“…Ainda, [11] propuseram uma nova tecnologia para tentar reduzir o consumo de água potável: a elaboração de um painel de chuveiro interativo que permite a criação de estatísticas de consumo de água com base em medições precisas de vazão de líquido e a transferência de dados para o dispositivo móvel do usuário. Segundo os autores, essa inovação visa conscientizar o usuário sobre a quantidade de água utilizada, o que por sua vez pode contribuir para um menor consumo de água em residências ou hotéis.…”

“…Europe’s goal is to become climate neutral by 2050, while China, the world’s second-largest economy, has plans to achieve the same goal by 2060 [ 1 , 2 ]. The first initiatives of the European Green Deal include the European Climate Law, the European Climate Pact, the 2030 Climate Goals Plan, and the EU Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, as shown in Figure 1 .…”
