Global trends in research related to functional dyspepsia and anxiety or depression over the past two decades: a bibliometric analysis

Qian Huang,
Huixiao Yuan,
Qingqing Li
et al.

Abstract: Background and purposeFunctional dyspepsia (FD) is a prevalent global disorder of the upper digestive tract characterized by functional impairment. It often coexists with anxiety/depression, significantly impairing occupational productivity and overall quality of life. This study aimed to identify emerging patterns and prominent themes within FD and anxiety/depression research through bibliometric analysis to help explore new innovative avenues for investigating this type of FD.MethodsA comprehensive review of… Show more

“…Furthermore, for the YMC-Triart column (Figure S3C), isoliquiritigenin and glycyrrhizin were detected at the same retention time, and the resolution of poncirin was not as good as that achieved with the other columns. Although the resolution of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid on the SunFire TM column was slightly low, we were 5), ononin (6), baicalin (7), poncirin (8), wogonoside (9), baicalein (10), isoliquiritigenin (11), glycyrrhizin (12), and wogonin (13). The concentrations of each marker compound in the mixed standard solution were as follows: 4-hydroxycinnamic acid (10.00 µg/mL); ononin, baicalin, wogonoside, baicalein, isoliquiritigenin, and wogonin (20.00 µg/mL); narirutin and naringin (30.00 µg/mL); liquiritin (40.00 µg/mL); liquiritin apioside and poncirin (50.00 µg/mL); and glycyrrhizin (100.00 µg/mL).…”

“…FD manifests as upper abdominal pain, a burning sensation, bloating, and early satiety, and involves increased gastrointestinal sensitivity ( Enck et al, 2017 ). Notably, patients frequently report emotional symptoms such as anxiety and depression ( Huang et al, 2023 ), which underscores the potential involvement of the gut-brain axis in FD.…”

“…The direct nursing costs of IBS in various nations range from 1.5 to 4.3 billion dollars ( Müller-Lissner and Pirk, 2002 ; Zhang et al, 2016 ; Goodoory et al, 2022 ), and the combined direct and indirect economic losses due to FD in the U.S. reach approximately 18 billion dollars annually ( Lacy et al, 2013 ). Moreover, the overlap of FD and IBS symptoms, along with their psychosomatic comorbidities, aggravates the economic burden significantly ( Huang et al, 2023 ; Kamp et al, 2023 ; Staudacher et al, 2023 ). Furthermore, these disorders also have a profound impact on quality of life, often leading to reduced work capacity and unnecessary surgeries due to misdiagnoses, thereby posing challenges to healthcare and society ( Drossman et al, 1993 ; Buono et al, 2017 ; Aziz et al, 2018 ; Black et al, 2020 ).…”
