Global research trends on anaerobic digestion and biogas production from cassava wastewater: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract: The cassava processing chain is potentially sustainable and can actively contribute in the change towards the circular economy. The present article aimed at assessing global scientific research trends on anaerobic treatment of wastewater originating from cassava processing. In this regard, a bibliometric analysis of anaerobic digestion and biogas production of wastewater from cassava processing was carried out within the period between 1980 and 2020, using the Scopus database. The results showed that the inter… Show more

“…Nowadays, the anaerobic digestion (AD) process is seen as a reliable and integrated system for environmental protection and energy security, reducing problems associated with the accumulation of organic waste [ 1 , 2 ]. AD is a biotechnological process assisted by syntrophic microorganisms leading to the controlled bioconversion of organic waste into biomethane, which is then converted in cogenerators enabling the generation of electricity and heat.…”

“…Two review papers are also included, the first one by Sarmiento-Padilla et al 2 is about circular bioeconomy in the production of fucoxanthin from aquatic biomass addressing extraction methodologies, applications and challenges in this field. The second review by Santos et al 3 presents the global research trends on anaerobic digestion and biogas production from cassava wastewater. In this work, the authors present the cassava processing chain as an example of circular economy focusing on the potential recovery of methane, hydrogen, biooil, bioethanol, propionic acid and butyric acid.…”
