Global Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) of a Photovoltaic Module Array Constructed through Improved Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization

Abstract: Abstract:The present study proposes a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method in which improved teaching-learning-based optimization (I-TLBO) is applied to perform global MPPT of photovoltaic (PV) module arrays under dissimilar shading situations to ensure the maximum power output of the module arrays. The proposed I-TLBO enables the automatic adjustment of teaching factors according to the self-learning ability of students. Incorporating smart-tracking and self-study strategies can effectively improve the … Show more

“…Incorporating smart‐tracking and self‐learning strategies can improve the tracking speed and steady‐state response of TLBO‐based GMPPT. The results revealed that I‐TLBO performs well in comparison with conventional TLBO, ACO and PSO in terms of GMPPT, convergence time, oscillation around steady state and efficiency [72].…”

“…Therefore, according to KVL, the string voltage equals the summation of modules voltage in the string, and according to KCL, the array current equals the summation of string current in the array [31]. However, in a practical PV array, a central maximum power point tracker (MPPT) [45][46][47][48] is used to get its global maximum power (GMPP) [49][50][51][52]. Therefore, all modules are led to work at their maximum potential, which is not exactly same for all modules even from same power rating due to the manufacturing tolerances, which causes MML in the PV array.…”

“…where ξ c represents the damping factor, f sw is the switching frequency and the settling time is chosen as t s = N c × T sw , with T sw = 1/ f sw [2,6]. In addition, the voltage reference y 1 = x 1 required in Equation (2) can be obtained by different MPP-ST [21][22][23][24]. In the present work, the Fractional Method is used due to its simplicity [24].…”
