“…These concepts together produce compassion fatigue; its symptoms include “(1) reexperiencing of the primary survivor’s traumatic event; (2) avoidance of reminders and/or numbing in response to reminders; and (3) persistent arousal” (Figley, 1995a; Jenkins & Baird, 2002, p. 424). These counselor stressors are not inconsequential for clients, as they can lower the standard of care or even pose significant harm to clients through increasing trust violations, hindering the counseling process, and risking ethical breaches (Robino, 2019). Thus, it is critical to identify effective strategies and actions for protecting the long-term well-being of both counselors and their clients.…”

Lastly, this study took place in the fall of 2020 when the world was learning the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on relational health (Joshi et al, 2021) Though many studies highlight the implications of relational well-being for counselors (e.g., Burck et al, 2014;Cummins, et al, 2007;Robino, 2019;Wolf et al, 2012Wolf et al, , 2014, empirical research of contemplative pedagogy on relational well-being is still lacking in the literature.…”
