“…Among GBMO cases, loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of 1p and/or 19q (75% of samples), LOH of 10q (58% of samples), EGFR amplification (39% of samples), and TP53 mutation (22.2% of samples) were detected. These molecular alterations are consistent with some but not all previous studies [53,82]. Nevertheless, distinctions between rates of alterations in GBMOs and GBM support this distinct entity.…”

“…The frequency of GB-O in the whole group of glioblastomas has been observed in the range from 4.2% up to 27.2% [17,21,29,38]. In GB-O cases, the frequency of LOH 1p was from 12 to 24%, 19q was from 32 to 43%, and combined 1p/19q was from 22 to 28% [39,40]. In the more recent EORTC/NCIC trial study concerning a large group of 360 GB cases, an oligodendroglial component was found in 15% of all cases but co-deletion of 1p/19q was found in only one case [41].…”

“…Recently, a new concept, glioblastoma with oligodendroglial components, has been proposed based on accumulated evidence that a subset of glioblastoma includes areas with oligodendroglial features, or a subset of oligodendroglioma acquires the morphological features of glioblastoma during malignant progression. 36,37 Steady histopathological analyses may present a clue.…”
