“…There is a slight predominance for females, with 50 years as the mean age. This cyst has a tendency to recur after enucleation, giving a rate of recurrence of approximately 20% (43,44). The concept of an odontogenic origin is lent by the occurrence of hyaline bodies (45), ghost cells (43,46), squamous odontogenic tumor-like proliferations (46,47), and dentinoid (44) in the wall of cyst, in addition to a GOC presenting as a dentigerous cyst (45).…”

“…It is important to note that GOC occurs in older patients (43,44) but ameloblastoma in younger patients (2, 11,22,50). Moreover, these two lesions displayed the different distribution according to the affected site (22,43,44). Histologically the cyst lining of GOC lacks the VG criteria typical of ameloblastoma (48).…”

“…It was first discussed at the meeting of the International Association of Oral Pathologists in 1984 but was first documented as a "solo-odontogenic cyst" by Padayachee and VanWyk in 1987. 1 Histologically, in 1988, Gardner et al found that the epithelial lining of this cyst was odontogenic in nature and gave the term "glandular odontogenic cyst," which was later adopted by the World Health Organisation. A glandular odontogenic cyst is a clinically aggressive lesion with a high recurrence rate, similar to an odontogenic keratocyst.…”

“… 2 , 3 , 7 , 8 However, the radiographic diagnosis can be challenging due to similarities in radiographic features between the GOC and the other radiolucent jaw lesions because there are no radiological features distinctive for GOC. 9 , 10 …”
